I smiled at her enthusiasm, pulled more and more into this beautiful vision we were all weaving. "Can...can you teach me to fight, too?" I ask shyly. If we are to be pirates, real pirates, I want to wield a sword and fight my enemies head on. I want to be strong.

The girls continue their conversation and I move closer, but still stay on the floor. I lean my back against one of the beds and listen to their talk about freedom, the pirate ship and fighting. I feel like I'm back on the streets, working with the dock labourers and spending nights talking with the lads.
"You should first learn how to fight with yout bare fists. We don't have many weapons here.", I whisper, not even noticing that the words escape my lips. I rub my knuckles in my thoughts as I remember the many brawls and quarrels. It almost brings a smile on my lips. Almost, but not quite.

I smile at the thought of learning to protect myself, then I turn as I hear a whisper from the floor.
"Oh! W02X, join us up here, there's room! Can you help me to learn to fight as well?"

Hesitantly I climb on the bed and shrug my shoulders. "Um, sure... I mean, I am no pirate nor a soldier... But I've had my share of fighting. Mostly fistfights and wrestling. The lads at the docks helped me to learn, I had to. I... I can use a knife too...", I talk with quiet and calm voice, and clench my fists in my thoughts. "I can defend myself against the billy club. I can teach you too.", I look at W05W and nod reassuringly. I glance at the other girls and relax my hands.

I give W02X a comforting smile. "I need to learn how to fight as well, and then we can all protect each other when the other is unable to fight. Take turns protecting another." I look among out small group thus far, a mix of girls with many skills and histories, little whispers in the air. I close my eyes and fall asleep, dreaming of possible futures we can make happen all together.

"I can fight!" I bark, enthusiastically. "My mother showed me how. Granted, I can only use teeth and claws, but my mother taught me to use them well. I've never learned to wield weapons, though. I'd love to learn!"

"A quartermaster? I've never been on a ship before." I'm starting to relax and feel myself accepted by these girls. They don't shun me because of my violent reputation and past. The pirate girl reminds me of the lads at the docks with her coarse manners and laid-back attitude. It must be the first time I feel like one of the inmates...
