I hear footsteps outside Ward Cell W03, so loud are they that I know the inmates in adjacent cells hear as well. The footsteps are slow, equally spaced, but with a sense of grace. Years in the wild has heightened my hearing, and I know only one person who could make such calculating footfalls: Madame Mournington. (And maybe Dr. Stockill, when he isn't in one of his rages.)
Madame Mournington looks around our cell, and I can only assume she's already traipsed around cell W01 and W02. She swings her Master Key, grabs it, and points at an inmate nearby.
"What is she up to..." I murmur.

I am in a strange, small room, with my cell mates. We are frightened, we don't know what will happen next. One of the girls tells me it's okay and everything will be fine if I do what I'm told. Well my friend, I'm here exacly because I didn't do what I was told! I sigh, I can't let fear win. My thoughts are racing, I don't want to be abused again. Not anymore, but I feel as if I cannot control what comes next...

I look through the bars of my cage to an inmate I recognize as W02Y, from the adjacent cell. "What do you think is going on?" I whisper.
"Silence!" commands Madame Mournington. She heard me.
She looks around, pointing her Master Key at some inmates. Each inmate she points at is pulled out of their cage by the Chasers. Then, she points at me.

Poor inmate W03Z is as confused as I am, but I am too scared to answer her question. I look at her and try to smile as hard as I can, I don't want to make this worst but I cannot control myself as I start singing as loud as I can. "Do you want to be leeched child?" Madame Mournington asks me. I keep singing until I am almost screaming, I CANNOT STOP! The stripes are moving and I can hear the grinding gears all around me, I think I'm going to pass out

I sniff the air for any clue as to what Madame Mournington is planning. Dirty bodies...damp straw...nothing out of the ordinary...but alas! I catch a flowery scent in the air, and I know that Madame Mournington wears no perfume (which apparently is something most women wear, if my fellow inmates are correct in explaining this to me), because she can't smell. Such a delicate scent is rare, if not completely absent, in the ward cells. Why do I feel...hope? "Shh, I think we'll be okay." I whisper to W02Y. In response, Madame Mournington steps on my foot. I howl in anguish. "Quite, you disgusting animal." growls Madame Mournington.

As soon as Madame Mournington speaks she lets some flowers fall onto the floor. Dear God, I was mesmerized by them! So delicate, so white. They seemed so out of place... "See? You can shut up! If your voice was half as bad you'd be in solitary confinement already!" Said Madame Mournington whilst tousling some flowers on my hair. Even while doing it, she remained crude. Not even an action which you could consider caring could melt her cold heart. I felt sorry for her, she seemed to lack the ability to love...

It seems that W02Y will be going to the same place as me. As most of the girls around me are exceptionally pretty, I can see why W02Y was chosen. She has very pretty hair. "To the Bathing Court!" commands Madame Mournington. She points at me. "Make sure that one brushes her hair out. She looks like a beast!" As we're marched to the Bathing Court, I whisper to W02Y. "If she thinks she's putting flowers in my hair, she's madder than Silent Sarah!" Of course, I am bluffing. If she wants to put flowers in my hair, there is nothing I can do about that. We're the inmates, she's the warden. Whatever happens next, there is no doubt in my mind we'll be forced to do whatever she says. And as this is a new event in our lives, I'm sure there will be new consequences...

Off to the bathing court we were, if you can call it that... They made us wipe yourselves with wet clothing, as if we were some kind of...well, inmates. Either way it was a luxury, as Madame Mournington so kindly remind us, constantly. I managed to help W03Z with her hair, since I knew they would hurt and maybe even cut her knots. About the flowers, well she didn't seemed to like the idea but when I pulled one of my hair she accepted it and seemed glad. Her eyes were shining as bright as stars, they had the purest expression I have ever seen. Wild, but yet so kind and comforting. I waited for her move to see if I should help her to put flowers her hair

I accept the flower from W02Y. I would never feel 'blessed' by an action taken by Madame Mournington, but a gift from a packmate - correction, cellmate - was an honor. (My, I must have really spent a long time around these girls to think of them as my pack, but the feeling of belonging isn't unwelcome.) I begin to quickly scratch at a brick section of the wall, effectively filing my claws. I fear that if Madame Mournington sees them, she'll call a Chaser to cut them, and the Chasers would probably use saws and cut off my fingers. "Here's some bars 'a soap, ladies." slurs a probably drunk Chaser, passing out strange, slippery, rectangular things. Most of the girls look at the 'soap' (if I can trust what the Chaser calls them) with wonder, but I stare at it with confusion. I vaguely remember the word 'soap' from when the zookeepers bathed me once, but I was so sedated I didn't notice what they were used for. "What is this?" I whisper to W02Y.

I watch the other inmates interact. Whispering to each other, huddled close together. I stand apart from them. Part of me, a part somewhere buried in the ashes of my soul wants to reach out, to talk with them and interact. But all I can do is hum to myself and wish the rats were here to explain what's happening. The girl with the wild hair, she makes me think that I could talk to her. There is something.... other.... about her. The colony has told me I can talk to the other inmates, that I can find my voice again. I start to drift over to them but get blasted with icy water and hit the ground.

"Stop that!" I yell, running as carefully as I can across the bathing court to the fallen inmates side. My stomach twists in knots as I attempt to help her up, my vision blurring slightly. The doctor said the drug is still leaving my system and demanded multiple blood lettings to speed the process. How that is considered healing, I'll never understand...
"Are you alright?" I ask the girl. I hear the drunken laughter of what the other girls call a 'Chaser' behind me. "Ain't no girl alright in the 'ead 'ere miss! Gots to clean you up anyways." There was a glee in his voice that unnerved me greatly, yet I found myself jutting my chin out at him in defiance.
"Sounds like you aren't quite alright yourself good sir."

Looking around at the girls, I can see that this 'soap' object is being used to scrub especially dirty spots, then the dirt turns into brown bubbles, and is gone. Does this thing clean? I have never seen anything like it. I should ask the rats about 'soap' soon... My attention is drawn by the same drunk Chaser I conversed with hitting inmate W04V in the side of the head. Apparently she said something he didn't like. Luckily, the Chaser is too drunk to maintain hand-eye coordination, so the slap appears rather light. In any event, I growl and race over on all fours towards another inmate, W06L I believe, who has fallen to the ground. "Is she all right?" I whimper to W04V. The Chaser kicks me in the side. They don't like it when I walk on all fours, they don't want to see the wild in me. Oh well, they aren't worthy of knowing nature's secrets anyway. I place one clawed hand against W06L's head, then quickly hide my hand. I'm afraid the Chasers will hack my claws off if they are spotted.

I am stunned silent.
He actually hit me!
The anger begins to well up inside me, beyond my control. But before I can think to retaliate the beast of a girl is by my side, pulling me away. "Is she alright?" She asks, and I am too stunned to speak. I thought she had no language, like many a feral child I'd heard of previous. She certainly looked the part, albeit with more tamed hair, now that her cellmate had tidied it. The Chaser gives her a quick kick to the side and her yelp pulls me from my long forgotten thoughts.
I am beyond angry. I am seething and feel as if I'm about to cause a scene. The throbbing in my neck is the only thing that manages to pull me out of it. I won't be able to handle another blow to the head, especially if he actually succeeds this time.
"Mind getting us ladies another bar of soap?" I ask through the most paltry smile I can muster.

I see that the Chaser is beyond irritated, and can't help but snicker. I truly admire W04V's ability to push the Chasers' buttons in a way that doesn't give them probable cause to hurt her. Then again, when was probable cause ever necessary? I look between W04V and W02Y, trying to figure out what to do about W06L. I try to sniff her for blood, but I can't smell anything past the lavender scent of soap. Should I lick her wounds? In the wild, that's what the wolves always did, but I doubt it works on humans. I look back at the other inmates, trying to seek help from a girl with a slightly better grasp of the human-world customs. Lost in my thoughts, I don't notice another Chaser grab my arm and yank it outward. He examines my dirty claws, and makes a taunting 'tsk, tsk, tsk' noise that I am unsure of how to interpret. What I do understand, however, is the glare of the hacksaw in his free hand and the deadly blade running across it. I try to smother it, but a tiny yip of terror escapes my lips. The drunk Chaser comes up beside my new captor. "Tut, tut," he slurs. "Don't-cha wanta look pretty for the boys, little lady?"

"The soap..." I remind them, losing my patience all over again. "The poor creature doesn't need to be teased like that, I'll see to it she looks as charming as an english rose for you all." I am shaking slightly, a mixture of anger, fear, and a twinge of excitement. I am almost daring him to hit me again and it's exhilarating. But seeing them taunt her, the hacksaw swinging so far from her face... I am suddenly back home, charming the foolish men my husband would bring around. Smile, laugh, feint interest, get out alive...
"Our fine Headmistress wouldn't appreciate us looking worse for wear, would she?" I look from the hacksaw in the lead Chasers hand back to his eyes. "A simple woman's touch is all it'll take." I motion to take the girl's hand from his.
